Beijing, Jan 19 (EFE).- The first time dogs started living with humans was 33,000 years ago in Southeast Asia, says a new study by Chinese scientists on the origin of the domesticated dog.
The research, carried out by the Kunming Institute of Zoology in southern China and published in the international scientific journal "Cell Research", came to the conclusion after examining genomic sequences of 58 dogs, including 12 kinds of gray wolf (possibly the closest wild ancestor of the dog), 27 primitive dogs and 19 current races. Through these genomes, the Institute, under the state Chinese Academy of Sciences, prepared a map that shows the expansion of the dog over thousands of years, and shows a lapse of about 20,000 years between the first animals of this species domesticated in Asia and other parts of the world.
