HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - A Kentucky archeologist has found the graves of nearly 40 confederate soldiers in a Hopkinsville cemetery.Archeologist Bill Meacham has spent nearly 16 years and thousands of dollars trying to locate lost confederate graves at Hopkinsville's Riverside Cemetery. Hopkinsville had a civil war encampment about 2,000 soldiers strong with men from both Kentucky and Tennessee. Several hundred of them died from disease, but no one knew where all of them were buried until now. Historian, William Turner said an old ledger was found in a roll top desk drawer in local bank in 1989. “That was a tremendous find, except you’ve got to know where to start,” said Turner. After several digs nothing turned up until finally they found a total of 40 graves. Full story & video: www.newschannel5.com/news/local-news/archeological-dig-finds-dozens-of-confederate-graves
