LEADING experts in the fields of Iron Age and Pictish studies in Scotland are to help celebrate the opening of a new exhibition of ancient artefacts and display panels in Inverness.‘Moving beyond the Frontier’, a special one day conference, organised by Highlife Highland, takes place at Inverness Town House on Friday. It explores the impact and legacy of the Roman Iron Age in the Inner Moray Firth, with a special focus on the collections at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. The programme includes presentations from Dr Alex Woolf, of the University of St Andrews, curators from the National Museum of Scotland and Inverness Museum and Art Gallery and archaeological conservators and illustrators. The day will open with a key note lecture from Dr Fraser Hunter, principal curator of the Roman and Iron Ages at the National Museum of Scotland, who will explore the effect of the Roman world on the north of Scotland. Native and Roman relations have long been a topic of interest, with varying views on the extent and impact of the empire in the north.
